Joicy Pereira

de Carvalho

Joicy Pereira de Carvalho is a Brazilian lyric coloratura soprano specializing in bel canto, Baroque, and chamber music repertoire. Raised in Brazil’s rich musical environment, she was strongly influenced by bossa nova and MPB, shaping her expressive musicality. She began her training at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Goiás, studying clarinet and voice, and later joined both the Youth Symphony Orchestra Choir of the State of Goiás—where she served as soprano section leader—and the professional Symphonic Orchestra Choir of Goiânia.

As a voice teacher, Joicy has experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds. In Brazil, she taught at a music school where she developed a program focused on introducing children and teenagers to the foundations of healthy vocal technique. Her goal is to help young singers understand how to use their voices safely and effectively while exploring the repertoire they love. Known for her attentive and sensitive listening, Joicy adapts her teaching to meet the unique needs of each student, while encouraging a natural and joyful approach to singing.

Joicy earned her Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance from Universidade Federal de Goiás under Dr. Marília Álvarez, and completed her Master’s at Bowling Green State University with Myra Merritt-Grant while coaching undergraduate singers as a Teaching Assistant. She received First Prize in the Young Soloist Competition in Goiânia and was a two-time winner of the Marjorie Conrad Art Song Competition (2024 & 2025).
